Ball Joint Doll
Any doll articulated with ball and socket joints. When referring to modern dolls, and particularly when using the acronyms BJD or ABJD, it refers to modern Asian ball-jointed dolls. These are cast in polyurethane synthetic resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts are strung together with a thick elastic. They are predominantly produced in Japan, South Korea and China. They commonly range in size from 60 cm (24 in) for the larger dolls, 40 cm (16 in) for the mini dolls, and down to 10 cm (4 in) or so for the tiniest of the tiny BJDs. BJDs are primarily intended for adult collectors and customizers. They are made to be easy to customize, by painting, changing the eyes and wig, and so forth.
The base used in shoemaking to shape a shoe in the rough form of a foot.
Lasts come in pairs and the material used to make them can vary from wood to high-density polyethylene.
The shape is designed to fit the foot, the toe style, and the heel height; and is used in production to add the sole and heel after stretching the leather or fabric around the top.
A rubbery synthetic polymer used especially in adhesives, bookbinding and book arts, industrial coatings, and to protect cheese from fungi, mold, and humidity.
It should not be confused with the related polymer polyvinyl alcohol, which is called PVA also (PVAc could be considered a technically correct abbreviation for polyvinyl acetate and would aid in avoiding such confusion).
(IUPAC Poly(chloroethanediyl)) commonly abbreviated PVC, a thermoplastic vinyl polymer constructed of repeating vinyl groups (ethenyls) having one of their hydrogens replaced with a chloride group.
It is hard and only slightly flexible over long distances.
CPVC is PVC (polyvinyl chloride) that has been chlorinated via a free radical chlorination reaction. This reaction is typically initiated by application of thermal or UV energy utilizing various approaches. In the process, chlorine gas is decomposed into free radical chlorine which is then reacted with PVC in a post-production step, essentially replacing a portion of the hydrogen in the PVC with chlorine.
The principal mechanical difference between CPVC and PVC is that CPVC is significantly more ductile, allowing greater flexure and crush resistance.
A tough, rigid plastic used especially for automobile parts and building materials.
A cardboard or paper maché like material (also called composite or composition) created from nitrocellulose and camphor, plus dyes and other agents.
It is easily molded and shaped, is highly flammable and also easily decomposes, and is no longer widely used.
Table tennis balls, guitar picks, piano keys, dominoes, and the original Kewpie dolls, all have been, or are being made from it.
The size of something, fit to certain parameters.
